Communications Manager

Overall Responsibilities:

The role of the Communications Manager works closely with the Marketing Director, Partners and Principals to develop, coordinate and execute the firm’s strategic communication plan. This role would involve research, management and writing in support of speaking and publications. In addition, the Communications Manager would work closely with the marketing team for pursuit content, special projects and other tasks critical to the department’s success.

The ideal candidate will bring a genuine curiosity about design and a deep commitment to the firm’s ideals, which include design excellence, environmental stewardship, and the power of design to enhance communities and enrich human experience.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 Research, manage and support Partners and Principals in the execution of communication strategy and execution (speaking, writing, social media, etc.)
 Work with Marketing Director, leadership, and outside professionals to create a comprehensive communication plan, and facilitate the execution
 Prepare press releases and new hire announcements for external publications
 Work with marketing team to facilitate content for internal communications (intranet, announcements, etc.)
 Work with marketing team to facilitate content for website and social media
 Coordinate with outside public relations firm for national external publications
 Research and work with partners to develop speaking engagements (create storylines, assist in submissions, etc.)
 Assist with written material for proposals and marketing materials

Desired Criteria:
 Excellent verbal and written communication skills
 Strong collaboration and team player
 Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
 Highly-motivated and proactive self-starter with a “firm-first” orientation
 Ability to maintain focus on goals, combined with the agility and flexibility to re-direct when necessary
 Willingness to pitch in when and where needed
 Good listener
 Passionate about the power of design to address pressing environmental, social, and cultural issues
 Bachelor’s degree, in Journalism, English, Communications, Marketing, Design, or other relevant degree
 5+ years of communications experience, ideally in AEC industries or allied fields
 Evidence of strong writing and editing skills
 Evidence of strong organization and facilitation skills
 Proficiency with standard business software (Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint) and Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop)
 Involvement in professional organizations a plus
 Submission of a writing example (minimum 300 words) along with your resume and application
