Educational Reading Lead



Readers provide small group reading support to K-5 aged refugee and ELL youth during our after-school programming at Meadow Ridge Elementary School. Join our After-School Literacy Program and gain valuable experience working with refugee and ELL youth in a fun and engaging classroom environment! This is a wonderful chance to get to know newly arrived English language learners from across the globe, or to earn hours for a TEFL practicum.

Time Commitment
Sessions take place on Tuesdays, from 3:30 PM-5:30 PM, and on Wednesdays, from 1:30 to 3:30 from November to June. Readers are expected to commit to at least 3 months of sessions.

Responsibilities :
● Help students read and build their literacy skills.
● Provide interpretation support to volunteers, parents and students.
● Monitor students’ classroom behavior and encourage a positive classroom environment.
● Provide feedback to CRB staff on student progress and/or struggles on a consistent basis.
● Abide by all of CRB’s established protocols, codes of conduct, and procedures.

● Prior experience tutoring school-aged youth desired.
● Flexibility, a positive attitude, and resourcefulness.
● Ability to work independently and self-motivate.
● Enthusiasm for the mission of CRB.
● A strong interest in community service and refugee issues.
● Strong oral, written, and cross-cultural communication skills.

● Gain professional skills and work experience in a non-profit organization.
● Serve newly arrived refugee communities.
● Engage in service and community development.

Salary - $15/hour
